Billy 'Cockeyed' Cook, a 21-year-sometime from Joplin, Missouri who shot dead six people including a family of five during a iii-week killing spree across the U.S. in 1951, is re-seen today moments after his harrowing capture.

Hitchhiking along a road in late December that year, a mechanic picked him up but was no sooner forced by Cook into the trunk of his own car.

Continuing on in Oklahoma, a family of five wouldn't be and then lucky after they also found Cook on the side of the road and offered him a lift.

Cook shot the entire family which included a vii, five and three-year-former child before dropping their bodies down a well near his hometown of Joplin.

Finished there, Cook headed back west, taking a deputy sheriff earnest near Blythe, California.

Melt shot to expiry a Seattle salesman before kidnapping two hunters, James Shush and Forrest Damron , and forcing them to drive him to Mexico.

Fortunately for them, officers recognized Cook in Santa Rosalie, cuffing him and turning him over to the FBI on Jan 15 of 1951.

As his all-telling words explained at the time of his arrest, he allegedly grumbled to an officer when asked a motive for his crimes: 'I hate everybody's guts, and everyone hates mine.'

Cook was executed in a gas chamber at the age of 23 on December 12 of 1952.

Less than a yr later, film noir The Hitch-Hiker was released showing a killer based off of Cook's own haunting story.
